Baseball Playoff Roundup: Two Savannah Area baseball teams move on GHSA final eight - BC & SCPS

The Georgia High School State high school baseball playoffs continued on Wednesday. Six local teams had a chance to stay in, but two prevailed, Benedictine and Savannah Christin Prep. Both teams move onto the Elite eight in their respective classifications. Here are the highlights and scores from the Savannah Area teams:

 

Moving on to the GHSA Elite Eight

 

Class 4A

NW Whitfield at Benedictine (Benedictine wins series 2-1)

Game 1: NW Whitfield 7, Benedictine 2

Game 2: Benedictine 16, NW Whitfield 6

Game 3: Benedictine 13, NW Whitfield 3

 

Highlights of Game 3:  Georgia baseball commit Justin Thomas and Ben Hollerbach led Game 3 off in the bottom of the first with solo shots to centerfield, and the Cadets never trailed. Benedictine would break the game open in the bottom of the fourth with six runs to take a 9-1 lead. Kam Edge was the winning pitcher for BC going four innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out 5.

 

Next Up: Benedictine (28-5) will host Troupe Co. (25-10). Tentative Monday, May 9, 2022, DH 4 pm.

 

Class 1A Private

Hebron Christian at Savannah Christian (Savannah Christian sweeps series)

Game 1: Savannah Christian 6, Hebron Christian 4

Game 2: Savannah Christian 4, Hebron Christian 2

 

Highlights of Game 2: Savannah Christian's Daegan Strickland won his second complete game in five days by pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh. Savannah Christian won 4-2 to sweep Hebron Christian and progress to the Class A Private Elite 8.

 

Next Up: Savannah Christian (27-7) will host Fellowship Christian (26-2). Tuesday, May 10, 2022, DH Time 3 pm

 

Not moving on, but outstanding seasons by all teams reaching the GHSA Sweet Sixteen.

Lassiter at Richmond Hill (Lassiter wins series 2-1)

Game 1: Richmond Hill 6, Lassiter 2
