BC surges to third place finish in AAAA state golf tournament

The Benedictine golf team finished strong in the second round of the Georgia High School Association AAAA state golf tournament on May 17 to earn a third-place finish at Houston Lake Country Club in Perry, Ga.

BC sophomore Whit Watson carded scores of 78-78 to finish T13 at 12-over par for 36 holes. As a team, the Cadets improve their total score by 12 strokes in the second round and edge fourth place finisher, Marist, by one stroke.

On the final hole of the second round, Benedictine's Hank Tollison holed a 30-foot birdie putt that essentially propelled the Cadets into third. Tollison led the Cadets in the second round with a 4-over 76, Nicholas Scarano added a 77 and Whit Watson's brother, Haddon Watson, added an 81 to round out the BC scoring.

Individually, Tollison finsihed T16 with scores of 82-76, and Scarano finished T20 after scores of 82-77. The entire six-person roster for the state tournament consisted of Whit Watson, Hank Tollison, Nicholas Scarano, Clay Massey, Michael Slatinsky and Haddon Watson.
