One of the best college baseball programs in the country might’ve found a recruiting hotbed in the city of Savannah. Calvary Day’s star junior Will Hampton committed to Vanderbilt over the weekend with a post on his Twitter account. The lefty two-way standout is a Perfect Game All-American who figures to play first base at the next level for Vandy head coach Tim Corbin.

As a sophomore pitcher/first baseman for the Cavs last season, Hampton posted a slash line of .368/.495/1.058 OPS at the plate. On the mound, the lefty was 4-1 with a 0.75 ERA. Hampton is the second LHP from a Savannah private school in recent years to commit to Vandy. Benedictine’s Carter Holton just wrapped up his freshman season in Nashville and is considered one of the top pitchers in the SEC coming back in 2022-23.

Hampton, who is in the recruiting class of 2024, hit .455 over the summer playing on the Perfect Game summer showcase circuit. He was the Region 3A Private Co-Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2022.

A Richmond Hill native, Hampton hit two homers, drove in 26 runs and scored 32 runs for head coach Phillip Lee’s Cavs (22-10 last season).

He has been a first team All-Greater Savannah selection by the Savannah Morning News in each of his first two prep seasons. In his freshman campaign, Hampton went 7-2 with a 1.35 ERA on the mound while hitting for a .375/.469/.911 slash line. He roped five doubles and drove in 26 runs.

Through two high school seasons, Hampton is slashing .372/.481/.978 with 52 RBI and 17 extra-base hits.
