Memorial’s varsity boys basketball team sprinted to a 29-5 lead at home in the Matadome on Saturday against Twiggs Academy and never looked back en route to an 87-36 victory.
Twiggs Academy (7-7) was playing its fourth game in four days, and Memorial (19-5) took advantage of the tired legs to seize a 52-16 halftime lead.
Memorial senior George White led all scorers with 20 points three quarters of playing time, and sophomore point guard Sean Stoddard added 19 points and 6 assists. Senior Cam Hall contributed 14 points and 5 steals, and Alden Stevens had 10 points and 9 rebounds.
“This was a total team victory,” said Memorial coach Todd O’Neal. “Twiggs Academy has a great young team that can give us problems and they did at their place. I told our players I wanted to start guarding them as they stepped off the bus and don’t get off them until they step back on.”
Twiggs Academy could not stop Memorial’s guards, who combined for 53 points. Memorial starts the region tournament on Tuesday with a rematch against Twiggs Academy scheduled for 5 pm at Robert Toombs Academy.
