The Performance Initiatives Gym of Savannah, Georgia announced three PI weightlifters qualified virtually for Team USA. The PI Athletes were Tayon Vereen (109), Nia Walker (+87) and Kaiya Bryant (49kg) who qualified for Team USA 2020 International Teams. United States Weightlifting Association (USWA) pivoted from in person qualification events to an online week long qualifier to select the 2020 Youth World Team and 2020 Junior Pan Am Teams to be held this fall. More than 100 athletes competed online at their home gyms or garages using zoom.
PI GYM athletes Tayon Vereen and Nia Walker have been selected to represent Team USA at the Junior World Championships in Manizales, Columbia November 21-29th.
Tayron Vereen is a sophomore attending Brewton-Parker College. Tayron is a Sol C. Johnson alumni. Vereen, a 2x JR National Champions (2019 & 2020)m 2020 University Champion , 2019 & 2020 JR. World Team Member competes in the 109kg division.
Nia Walker, 2020 JR. National Champion, 3x Youth National Champion and 2019 Youth World Team medalist is a rising senior at Sol C. Johnson High School. Nia will represent Team USA in the +87kg division.
Kaiya Bryant, 2019 Youth Pan Am Champion, 2019 Youth World Team medalist and 3x Youth National Champion will be representing Team USA in the 49kg division on the Youth World Team November 11-18th in Lima, Peru.
