A classic rivalry for decades in the Nine-One-Two, Savannah Christian and Calvary Day renewed their storied series on the hardwood in front of a large, loud and equally represented contingent of purple and red at Savannah Christian’s Eckburg Arena on Friday night, January 15.

Savannah Christian started hot in the shooting department and never cooled off, winning 63-50 to earn a critically important victory within Region 3-A. The Raiders (7-7, 1-1) were led by their sharp-shooting 2-guard, Cooper George. The senior racked up 27 points, including six 3’s, to pace head coach Robert Walsh’s team to a second straight win.

Parker All added 13 points and 12 rebounds and Thomas Davidson scored 10 for SCPS, which finished 16-of-18 (89%) from the free-throw line. George has hit 14 3’s in his last two games.

The Cavs trailed 50-33 entering the fourth quarter after having been outscored 30-18 in the two middle stanzas. Head coach Chad Carver’s team cut the lead to 10, at 54-44 midway through the fourth quarter, but never crawled closer. Calvary had won 3-of-4 in the series dating back to January 2019 and the Cavs entered Friday’s contest having won four straight.

If revenge is sweet, then SCPS got a full dose of sugar in the win. An SCPS team hadn’t eclipsed the 60-point plateau against the Cavs since February 3, 2012 (65 points).

Calvary (9-6, 1-1) only had one double-digit scorer with sophomore Darian Barksdale’s 10-point contribution.
