ROUNDUP: Woodville can’t solve Swainsboro; Private schools battle public schools Tuesday in Savannah

Here is your Prep Sports high school basketball roundup for games played across Savannah on Tuesday, January 19.

SWAINSBORO 79, WOODVILLE-TOMPKINS 67 

Swainsboro pulled away with an 18-9 advantage in the fourth quarter to beat the host Wolverines on Tuesday in Savannah, 79-67.

The Wolverines (11-2, 5-2) continued to get good play from Lukas Platauna, as he scored 18 points to lead head coach Lenny Williams’ Class 2A No. 3 squad in the loss at home. Both Woodville losses this year have come against the highly-regarded Tigers.

No. 2 Swainsboro (10-1, 7-0) was paced by Fred Seabrough’s 27 points and Demonte Smith’s 14. Two other Tigers scored 11.

Larry Chapman scores 11 points for WT and Zion Powers 10.

SW — 23 - 17 - 21 - 18 — 79

WT — 20 - 13 - 25 - 9 — 67

NEW HAMPSTEAD 70, BENEDICTINE 61 (2OT)

It took an extra 10 minutes of play to solve the question of who was winning this one, as the Cadets and Phoenix played an all-out war against each other with a Region 3-4A victory at stake.

New Hampstead (8-3, 2-0) got 24 points from Alaris Wall and 14 (nine in fourth quarter) from DeAndre Smart.

BC (5-5, 1-2) was led by 24 points from Trent Broadnax and 12 from Christaan Neely.

BEACH 46, SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY 44

Four Bulldogs scored in double-figures led by Larry Johnson’s 12 points and Javonte Landy’s 11 as Beach (5-8) earned an impressive non-region win at Savannah Country Day.

Gray Grayson scored 14 and Timo Moeller 12 in the loss for SCDS (10-6).

ISLANDS 57, JENKINS 51

The Sharks earned an upset win within Region 3-4A by knocking off the up-and-down Warriors.

Freshman Jordan Cave poured in 16 points to lead Islands (4-11, 1-2) while Charles Williams led all scorers with 24 for HVJ (8-7, 1-2). Jerrell Floyd added 19 for the Warriors.

RICHMOND HILL 60, SOUTH EFFINGHAM 55
