Another group of local high school football players from Benedictine, Islands, and Savannah High has been recognized by the Savannah Quarterback Club for their excellent performance in previous games.
Four student-athletes were selected as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Holden Geriner, the quarterback at Benedictine Military School for week three and teammate Justin Thomas for week four were awarded Offensive Players of the Week on Monday night.
Geriner was honored for his effort against Beaufort in the Cadets' 33-23 defeat. Geriner threw 25 passes for 260 yards and a score in the contest. Geriner has already verbally committed to play football at Auburn University.
Thomas was recognized for running for 214 yards and two touchdowns in Benedictine's 48-17 victory against North Oconee. In the game, he had three receptions for 77 yards. Thmoas has already verbally committed to play baseball at the University of Georgia.
Langston Lewis of Islands High School was named Defensive Player of the Week for week three after collecting two interceptions in the Sharks' 19-7 victory against Johnson High School. Lewis has already verbally committed to play football at the University of Central Michigan.
Josiah Tate, a defensive end for Savannah High, was also awarded Defensive Player of the Week for week four. In the Blue Jackets' defeat against the Islands, Tate had eight solo tackles, two sacks, and three tackles for loss. Tate also played wide receiver and helped on six tackles.
