Savannah, GA - For the past six years, The Habersham School has been building quite the resume for its baseball program under the helm of head coach Tim Rowland and assistant coach Chaston Hart, both Savannah natives. Habersham has won a region championship in six years, a state title, and produced four All-State players.

Having "had the time of his life these past six years coaching these boys," Rowland has announced he will be stepping away. "I have truly enjoyed coaching the boys and watching them grow as baseball players and men," said Rowland. "I will be handing the team over to Ryan Smith and believe that with his leadership, Habersham baseball will be in great hands!"

After playing junior college ball in Oregon for his first two years of eligibility, Ryan, an Oregon native, transferred to the Armstrong State University Pirates to finish his career from 2009-2010. Having some opportunities to play ball at the next level, Smith elected to put his physical education degree to work and started coaching baseball at Windsor Forest High School. After a short stint there, he transitioned to coaching at Richmond Hill High School.

"I am very excited for this new opportunity to coach Habersham baseball alongside Coach Bill Fowler," said Smith. "I'm looking forward to being part of a great school and athletic program that is continuing to grow. My, I hope that we can help these guys develop beyond athletics. We want them to love baseball and to work hard, but more importantly we, want them to grow in their relationship with the Lord and be young men of good character."

"We are so very thankful for Coach Rowland and appreciate all he has given to these boys and our school these last six years, building our program and leading us to a state championship," said Athletic Director Susan Barry. "We are also thrilled to have Ryan Smith and Bill Fowler take the reins and continue to grow our program as they teach these young men what it takes to be the best players they can be on the field and the strongest men they can be; in life."
