Three former standout Savannah Area prep baseball players reported to Major League Ball clubs on July 2nd. South Effingham’s Josh Reddick, JB Wendelken, and Calvary Day School's Tyler Bashlor reported to an abbreviated spring season camp.  Reddick has the most MLB experience and an MLB World Series Ring.

Josh Reddick, Outfielder, South Effingham High School Class of 2006, has been in the big leagues since 2009. Reddick has played for the Boston Red Sox, Oakland A’s, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Houston Astros. In 2019 Josh batted .275 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs in 201 at bats. Reddick was a team member of the Houston Astros MLB World Championship team in 2017 and won a Gold Glove in 2012.

J.B. Wendelken, Pitcher, South Effingham High School Class of 2011, appeared in his first MLB game in May 2016 for the Oakland A’s. Wendelken chosen by the Boston Red Sox in 2012, was then traded to the Chicago White Sox in 2013, and next in 2015 to the Oakland Athletics. In 2019, J.B. pitched in 27 games for Oakland, finishing with a 3-1 record, an ERA of 3.58, with 34 strikeouts and only 9 walks.

The New York Mets drafted Tyler Bashlor, a Pitcher from Calvary Day School Class of 2011 in 2013. Bashlor has been with the Mets his entire career. Tyler made his MLB debut in June 2018 versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. The last two seasons he has pitched in 48 games as a reliever and has struck out 45 batters. The Mets considered Tyler as having one of the  most  live arms and hardest throwers in the Mets organization reaching triple digits with his fastball clocked at 100 miles per hour or higher.

All three players are on their respective team’s 60 player pool roster. The players in the pools have opted to play in the 60 game 2020 MLB season. These players will be available throughout the planned 60-game season. Teams will have to announce 30 players who will make up the initial Opening Day roster for each team, the other 30 will remain at an alternate training facility. This most likely will  be a ballpark of one of the club’s nearby Minor League teams. Three of the other 30 players  will travel on road trips with the team as they are all  active players in case needed for any reason.
