Where are they Now? Keeping you up to date on your former Savannah area prep stars!

 

Gaby Van Brunt, St. Andrew's/Alabama, Swimming

Van Brunt, afreshman, at the University of Alabama received recognition on the All-SEC (Southeastern Conference) Freshman Team. In this swimming season for the Tide, Van Brunts time of 51.68 seconds in the 100 butterfly event at the SEC Championships placed her as best in program history with a fourth place finish in that event. Additionally she was part of the Second Team All 200 relay team, for the Tide. 

 

 

Jalen DeLoach, Islands High School, Gray Collegiate, Skill Factory Academy/VCU/UGA

DeLoach entered the transfer portal on April 8 and announced that he would transfer from the University of Georgia to Loyola University Chicago on April 16, 2024. The 6-foot-9 DeLoach will head to Chicago after spending just one season in Athens and two seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Jalen played in 32 games for the Bulldogs, with six starts. He averaged 3.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, and his field goal percentage was 53.5%. He logged an average of 12.9 minutes on the court per game.

While at VCU, DeLoach was recognized for his outstanding performance, earning a spot on the Third All-Atlantic 10 team for the 2022-23 season. DeLoach stood out by leading the team in rebounds with an average of 6.9 per game, blocking an average of 1.14 shots per game, and scoring 9.7 points. 

 

Trey Broadnax, Islands High School, the Montverde Academy/ US Naval Academy/University of South Carolina Upstate

On April 18, 2024, Broadnax announced his transfer from the University of South Carolina Upstate to Rice University. He had entered the transfer portal on April 7, 2024. Broadnax is a 6-foot-4 point guard who spent two seasons at USC-Upstate and one season at the US Naval Academy before moving to the Owls.

Broadnax was a two-year starter for USC-Upstate, where he averaged 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game this season, as posted on Twitter. Broadnax was a key player for the Spartan's roster immediately after beginning his basketball career with one season at the Naval Academy.
