St. Vincent’s traveled to Jenkins Athletic Club for an early non-region contest and it was Calvary Day School’s senior night. For all seniors from both teams a special night was in store at the end of the game. Usually the tradition is to hold senior night on your last home game of the season. We all remember that the Class of 2020 spring athletes had their senior night stolen because of the COVID-19 pandemic and turned senior night into a virtual ceremony. Calvary Day School's softball program did not want this to happen to the Class of 2021.
Calvary also extended senior night to St. Vincent’s Academy and honored the Saints seniors also. This was an outstanding gesture to the Lady Saints because every athlete looks forward to their senior night. You can say Calvary Day School hit it out of the park for both teams on senior night!

Back to the game as St. Vincent’s defeated Calvary in a close game 5-2. The Saints are off to a 2-0 start. Calvary is still looking for its first win of the season. Abby Nowell, for St. Vincent’s took to the hill and pitched a complete game striking out eight Cavaliers, only allowed 5 hits, walked 3, and only gave up 1 earned run. At the plate four Saints had a hit, Kyleigh Wheeless, Hayden Aliotta, Reagan Aliotta, and Amber Beddow who also had a run batted in.
On the Cavaliers side of the field, pitcher Cayden Fleming struck out five, gave up five hits, walk two, and gave up only two earned runs. Fleming stood out at the plate going 2 for 3 with a double and teammate Raegan Sterrett also went 2 for 3 but had two doubles.
Even though the Cavs feel 5-2 Thursday night, the gesture and ceremony to honor all seniors from both teams was special. We know that senior night is an emotional moment for all student-athletes who careers are ending. Within this Covid 19 pandemic time, you never know if it will end sooner than later.
