Some players do more than lead the final box score. They set the tone, lead by example, and elevate teammates, coaches say. This week, Demetrius “Meechie” Brown of Calvary Day School and Jordon Massey of Jenkins High School did just that.

Demetrius “Meechie” Brown | Calvary Day School
Senior | Point Guard

Calvary Day senior Demetrius “Meechie” Brown has started the holiday break playing strong, steady basketball. Averaging 17 points per game, Brown’s consistent scoring and increased leadership as point guard have helped steady his team and direct the offense, according to Calvary Head Boys' basketball coach Bob Martin.

He led Calvary Day the week of December 15, 2025, with 17 points against No. 3-ranked St. Pius (Class 4A) in a tough overtime loss, helping keep the team competitive throughout. Brown proved he can perform against top competition. Over the past two games, his 14 assists and 13 rebounds contributed directly to Calvary’s balanced attack, and going 8-for-8 at the free-throw line showed his ability to deliver under pressure. Martin said Brown’s growth stands out.

“Meechie is getting better every day,” Martin said. “He continues to become a better leader and holds himself to a high standard. He’s always positive and willing to put in the extra work.”

That kind of leadership matters, especially this time of year.

Jordon Massey | Jenkins High School
Senior | Guard

At Jenkins, senior guard Jordon Massey is becoming the heartbeat of the team, energizing both ends of the court with defense and communication that rally his teammates.

Massey scored 20 points on 40 percent shooting with three steals on December 27, 2025, at the McDonald’s Shootout Classic. He earned All-Tournament Team honors at the SCCPSS Holiday Classic. His consistent defensive pressure on the perimeter, relentless energy, and vocal leadership have defined Jenkins’ identity and inspired his teammates.

When Massey records at least three steals, Jenkins plays its best basketball. He regularly guards the other team’s top scorer and calls out defensive coverages. He leads with effort—diving for loose balls, sprinting back, and forcing turnovers. According to head coach Terry Hines, Massey makes a strong overall impact.

“Jordon’s impact goes far beyond points and steals,” Hines said. “His defensive energy and leadership set the tone for our team.”

Massey also leads with maturity, encouraging teammates, accepting coaching, and staying composed under pressure, stated Hines.

Though Brown and Massey showcase different skills—Brown through scoring and facilitating, Massey through defense and energy—both demonstrate the leadership, grit, and winning habits that define Coach’s Corner Players of the Week.
