Some players shape the moment rather than wait for it. This week’s Coach’s Corner Players of the Week did just that, leading their teams when it mattered most.
Coach’s Corner Girls Player of the Week
Aniyah Wright | Groves High School
Senior | Guard
A standout at the Jenkins High School BallHER Showcase on December 29th and 30th, Groves senior guard Aniyah Wright made her presence felt. She contributed not just in the box score but also transformed her effort into wins.
Wright averaged almost 20 points per game, helping lead Groves to two victories at the Jenkins High School BallHER Showcase. She scored 23 points against Glynn Academy and followed with 16 points against Portal, setting the tone offensively each night.
Wright’s season success extends beyond this week. Leading her region in scoring, she also ranks third statewide in points per game according to MaxPreps.com.
Groves head coach Jademone Jones said Wright has embraced her role as a senior leader.
“As a senior guard, Aniyah embraced the responsibility of carrying this team. Her energy, drive, and relentless effort on the offensive end helps drive the team every night.”
With this foundation, Wright enables Groves to count on her every game—providing scoring, competitive drive, and steady leadership.
Coach’s Corner Boys Basketball Player of the Week
Ja’Cari Glover | St. Andrew’s School
Senior | Forward
At St. Andrew’s, senior forward Ja’Cari Glover delivered strong inside play over a two-game stretch on December 29th and 30th at the Lemon Street Classic in Marietta, Georgia, controlling the paint and impacting both ends of the floor.
On December 29 against Arlington Christian, Glover posted 19 points and 15 rebounds. The next day, he followed up with 14 points and 11 rebounds against Midtown. Over those two games, he averaged 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, giving the Lions consistent production inside.
St. Andrew’s head coach Mel Abrams said Glover’s development continues to stand out.
“Ja’Cari is a player with a huge upside. Surprisingly, he is still growing and developing untapped aspects of his game. As he continues to develop, we believe this will create more opportunities for him at the collegiate level.”
Glover’s size, effort, and rebounding presence have made him a key piece for St. Andrew’s as the season moves forward.
