DONATOS VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Week of August 21, 2023 to August 26, 2023

The Donatos/Prep Sports Report Volleyball Players of the Week are:

Lucy Kelly, The Habersham School, senior: Tallied 66 assists, 13 digs, and four aces to lead the Patriots to a 1-1 record for the week.

Susan Bery, the head volleyball coach at The Habersham School, stated, "Lucy makes our team go. No matter what kind of pass she gets, she consistently puts up hittable balls for our attackers to hit. She is calm under pressure and constantly leads and encourages her teammates."

Alex Audette, Islands High School, junior: Finished with 53 kills and 44 digs in six matches last week as the Sharks went 4-2. Three were critical region wins, and the Sharks remained undefeated in the area.

Sharks head volleyball coach Jessica Decker said this about Alex, "Alex is a leader on the court by example. She understands the needs of her teammates and does what needs to be done to put her team in the best position to be successful.

Clara Vorel, South Effingham, sophomore: Racked up 55 kills, 18 blocks, and nine assists with a 57.1 hitting percentage last week in eight matches.

South Effingham High School head volleyball coach Haywood Ellison said, "Clara, only being a sophomore, has proven to be one of the best players in the area and the state. Against top-level competition(Glynn Academy, Effingham County, Savannah Christian, North Forsyth, John's Creek), Clara was considered one of the best players on the floor but arguably the best player on the floor. Her blocks and brutal kills excite the crowd and the team. She boasts a 55.2% kill percentage and a 46.5% hitting percentage. Her hitting percentage would be 5th in the state once the leaderboard is updated. Besides being a dominant player, Clara is also a cerebral volleyball player. She knows where everyone must be and what should happen in every play. She has a great personality and is also a gifted, straight-A student.
