Monday Morning Flag Football Huddle: Who's Pulling Flags and Making Noise?

By Prep Sports Report Staff | October 26, 2026

Fourteen games. Fourteen wins. Thirteen shutouts.

How about those numbers?

The Groves Rebels are getting it done on the flag football field. According to MaxPreps, Groves is 14-0 and has allowed just seven points all season.

But the Rebels aren't the only Savannah-area team making noise.

Richmond Hill is 9-1, Calvary Day is 10-1, and several local teams are climbing the Georgia High School Association postseason rankings as November approaches.

Some players are putting up numbers worth talking about.

So who's hot, who delivered last week's biggest win, and what games should fans watch this week? Here's the Monday Morning Flag Football Huddle.

1. Which teams are playing the best football?

Let's start with Groves. The Rebels have outscored opponents 315-7, according to MaxPreps. That's not just winning. That's controlling games from start to finish.

Richmond Hill holds the No. 1 spot in MaxPreps' Savannah-area rankings, with Groves second and Calvary Day third. The Wildcats have won eight straight since their only loss, while Calvary has won six straight.

Woodville-Tompkins (10-3), St. Vincent's Academy (10-5 on MaxPreps), Jenkins (8-3), Portal (7-2), and Southeast Bulloch (6-2) are also in the postseason conversation.

Those records matter, but don't confuse MaxPreps team rankings with GHSA postseason rankings (PSR). They measure different things.

Here are the highest-ranked Savannah-area teams in their respective divisions.

GHSA Division Team GHSA PSR
Division 1 Calvary Day No. 4
Division 1 Woodville-Tompkins No. 10
Division 1 St. Vincent's Academy No. 20
Division 2 New Hampstead No. 15
Division 3 Groves No. 3
Division 3 Southeast Bulloch No. 13
Division 3 Jenkins No. 17
Division 5 Richmond Hill No. 5

2. Who had last week's biggest win?

Give this one to Calvary Day.

The Cavaliers shut out previously unbeaten New Hampstead 19-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, then blanked Savannah Christian 50-0 on Thursday.

That's two shutouts against very different opponents, and a good signal that Calvary's defense deserves as much attention as its offense.

South Effingham deserves a mention, too. The Mustangs, who had struggled earlier this season, knocked off New Hampstead 13-6 Thursday. That was the kind of result that makes you look twice at the scoreboard.

And how about Groves? The Rebels beat Savannah Arts Academy 33-0 and Johnson 28-0 on Thursday, keeping their unbeaten run going.

3. Which players are putting up impressive numbers?

Start with Groves senior quarterback Tamiya Washington.

Washington has thrown for 2,534 yards and 36 touchdowns, while compiling 667 rushing yards, according to MaxPreps. She isn't just dangerous throwing the football. She can hurt a defense with her legs, too.

On defense, teammate Kayla Small has 94 flag pulls. That's a lot of stops and a big reason opponents struggle to score against Groves.

Calvary Day quarterback Page Stewart has thrown for 2,249 yards and 43 touchdowns. Receiver Makayla Modicue has 684 receiving yards, while Rily Grassi has scored 14 touchdowns. Hephzibah Wilson has added 12 sacks and 16 flag pulls for loss.

Richmond Hill has its own one-two punch. Quarterback Claire Holker has 1,522 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes. Victoria Wallace has 911 receiving yards, 18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

And don't overlook Woodville-Tompkins. Quarterback Leila Lino-Garcia has thrown 20 touchdown passes, while Tracie Daniels has 85 flag pulls, including 21 for loss.

Plenty of playmakers. Plenty of reasons to watch.

4. Who's leading the GHSA playoff race?

Here's where the picture gets interesting.

In the GHSA rankings updated Monday morning, Groves is No. 3 in Division 3, Calvary Day is No. 4 in Division 1, and Richmond Hill is No. 5 in Division 5.

That's three Savannah-area teams sitting in the top five of their respective divisions.

Portal is No. 10 and Woodville-Tompkins No. 11 in Division 1. Southeast Bulloch is No. 13 and Jenkins No. 17 in Division 3, while New Hampstead is No. 15 in Division 2.

But nobody is holding a playoff trophy in October. Teams still have games to win, and postseason positions can change.

One reporting difference worth noting: MaxPreps lists Groves at 14-0, while the GHSA ranking report lists 11-0. The rankings above are GHSA rankings.

5. What three games should fans circle this week?

Richmond Hill at Jenkins, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 7 p.m. Can the Warriors slow down Holker and Wallace? Richmond Hill's offense will seriously test Jenkins.

Calvary Day at St. Vincent's Academy, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 5 p.m. The Cavaliers bring a six-game winning streak into a matchup with a Saints team that has 10 wins on MaxPreps.

Groves at Evans, Thursday, Oct. 29. The unbeaten Rebels face an 8-5 Evans team ranked No. 8 in GHSA Division 3. MaxPreps lists a 5:30 p.m. start, but Groves also has Liberty County on Thursday's schedule, so the game time needs confirmation.

One more to follow: Woodville-Tompkins and New Hampstead meet Tuesday at Groves Stadium.

The calendar is turning toward November, and the games are starting to mean a little more.

For these Savannah-area teams, the message is simple: Keep winning, keep improving, and give yourself a chance when the playoffs arrive.
