High school girls’ basketball returns across Savannah, with several programs welcoming new head coaches. Calvary Day, Effingham County, Groves, Johnson, St. Andrew’s, St. Vincent’s, and The Habersham School all have fresh leadership, including some familiar faces returning.

Johnson’s Brandon Lindsey is back on the Atom Smashers’ girls’ bench after time away, while St. Vincent’s coach Jason Helton returns to the GHSA ranks following a successful run at stops like Windsor Forest and Benedictine.

At the same time, established veterans like Bradwell’s Faye Baker, Bryan County’s Mario Mincey, Richmond Hill’s Sarah Jones, and others are chasing the next step with proven systems and expectations. From Class 6A down through the GHSA small-school divisions and into the GIAA and GAPPS ranks, there’s a mix of rebuilds, reloads, and genuine title hopes. Here’s a region-by-region look at what to expect in 2025–26.

CLASS 6A – REGION 1

Richmond Hill High School
Head coach: Sarah Jones
Years at school: 13
Overall record: 174–154

Outlook: We lost a lot of production and leadership with our graduating seniors last year, but we have some girls who are ready to step into those spots. This year, we look to continue to fight in the tough Region 1-6A that we are in and improve on our record and seed from last year. We look to get better each and every day in practice and in games to make sure we are ready for a tough game each night. – Sarah Jones.

Senior guards Madison Bueno and Molly Hildebrandt will look to build upon multiple strong varsity seasons to lead us alongside SC Gilpin, who is fighting back from an injury over the summer. Outlook: The Saints finished 12–11 in 2024–25, but lost four seniors, including their leaders in rebounds, assists, and blocks, off a team that gave St. Vincent’s its first winning season since 2018. Learning a new system under head coach Jason Helton, the Saints will lean on the sharp shooting of Adrianna Thomas-Hines and Anna Sophia Upchurch to lead the way on offense, while also looking for big things from a talented group of players that finished their JV season undefeated in 2024–25. “I am so impressed by my senior leaders and the talent of my underclassmen. This is a talented and fun group to coach and we should be a lot of fun to watch. - Jason Helton.
