Savannah Country Day School has appointed Roc Batten to be the school's next head football coach.
Batten, originally from Detroit, Michigan, played college football at Vanderbilty University as a defensive back and quarterback. He earned the Gator Bowl Team Leadership Award during his senior season with the Commodores.
After graduating, Batten remained involved with the Vanderbilt football program until 2002, serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator while earning a master's degree in education. In 2002, he started his high school coaching career, serving as an assistant coach for nine years at Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) and Ensworth School before being named the head football coach and associate director of admissions at Battle Ground Academy (BGA) in Franklin, Tennessee in 2011.
He led the program to the state championship game twice during his eight years before returning to to Ensworth School as the head football coach and associate director of admissions.
Baten has a proven track record of building successful programs, fostering positive team cultures and developing players. More than 80 his players have gone on to play in college and eight of his players ave gone on to play in the NFL.
His teams have made the posteseason playoffs in 12 of his 13 years as a head coach. Batten was named the Tennessee Football Coaches Association Division II-AAA Coach of the Year in 2023 and was named the head coach of the West Team in the Tennessee Football Coaches Association East/West All-Star Game earlier.
