St. Andrew's School Scores Touchdown with Appointment of Wes Worthington as New Head Varsity Football Coach

SAVANNAH, Ga. – St. Andrew's School is preparing for an exciting chapter in its football program with the appointment of Mr. Wes Worthington as the new Head Varsity Football Coach for next season. Coach Worthington brings a wealth of experience and a passion for molding young men into winning athletes and champions for life.

 

Coach Worthington has been coaching for 17 years and has taken on various roles such as defensive coordinator, educator, and mentor. He has been successful in all of his positions and has made a positive impact wherever he has worked. Prior to joining St. Andrew's, he served as a teacher, Lower School Athletic Director, and Varsity Football Defensive Coordinator at Calvary Day School. In addition, he was also Co-Defensive Coordinator for Benedictine Military School's Varsity Football team.

 

"My goal is to help these young men in the game of football and beyond," Coach Worthington declared, echoing the school's commitment to holistic development. "We will be competitive on the field, but I also want to teach them to be champions for life."

 

Coach Worthington's commitment to developing well-rounded individuals goes beyond the football field. He holds a BBA in Finance and a Masters in Sports Management from the University of Florida, where he was a reserve linebacker and special teams member under the legendary Coach Steve Spurrier. In 2000, he was recognized for his resilience and dedication by being named the Most Improved Walk-on during the spring season at Florida.

 

"We are very excited to welcome Wes to St. Andrew's," stated Head of School Dr. Kelley Waldron, her words reflecting the school's enthusiasm for the new coach. "His commitment to students and his well-rounded experience in coaching and teaching will serve our community well."

 

Athletic Director Jeff Gonzalez echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Coach Worthington's fiiting right into into the St. Andrew's family. "We are pleased that Coach Worthington is already on campus, meeting and interacting with our students," he said. "He is an excellent addition to our coaching staff and the St. Andrew's family."

 

Coach Worthington will be looking to lead the St. Andrew's football program to success both on and off the field. He is known as a dedicated coach that to develops the well-rounded student/athlete that are ready to tackle life's challenges. St. Andrew's is in good hands and is a strong contender to continue it's success in the Georgia Independent Athletic Association.
