VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Islands and St. Vincent's volleyball players reach kill, assist, and dig career milestones & teams ranked

Islands High School played against St. Vincent's Academy in a non-region match at Islands High School on Tuesday, September 26, 2022.  Two of the top two volleyball teams in the area would mean an exciting night but also a career night for opposing players.

 

Islands senior outside hitter Veronica Sierzant got her 1,000th kill in the second set. 


Mary Sophia Fischer, a junior setter at St. Vincent's Academy, passed 1,000 career sets in the first set. 

 

Last Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Phight for Phin at Hilton Head High School, St. Vincent's Academy senior Belle Jackson recorded her career 1000 dig, 

 

Local Volleyball Teams Ranked

Several local teams are ranked in the top 10 of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), and Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) by the Atlanta Journal Consitution, Score Atlanta, and MaxPreps. The following teams are ranked in their respective classifications. 

GHSA classification, Class 7A, Richmond Hill (30-4) is in the top 10 and ranked 9th on MaxPreps.

GHSA Class 4A, Islands (23-4) 7th by the AJC and Scrore Atlanta and Scrore Atlanta.

GHSA Class 3A, Savannah Christian (20-12) is 3rd, and St. Vincent's Academy (21-10) is 9th by the AJC and Scrore Atlanta. 

GHSA Class 2A Savannah Arts Academy (26-2) is ranked 4th by the AJC and Scrore Atlanta and Scrore.  

GIAA on MaxPreps, St. Andrew's (11-7) is ranked 10th by MaxPreps.

 

Unique to the Prep Sports Report

 

On senior night for the Hornets. Savannah Country Day defeated John Paul II and Effingham County on Tuesday, September 26, 2022.

 

Hornet Seniors

SCDS vs. John Paul II, 2-0, W

A hard-fought revenge match against the JPII Warriors ended in victory Tuesday to kick off senior night. Leading the swarm were the impressive back row efforts by Helen Kenney and Harris Stone with 10 and 12 digs apiece. Offensively, senior Mason Howington had an outstanding night with ten kills on 20 attacks. Adding to the attack were seniors Fiona Wilson and Alli Buckler with ten assists and three kills, respectively. 

Scores: 25-9, 25-17

 

SCDS vs. Effingham High School 2-0, W

Seniors Mason Howington, Fiona Wilson, and Alli Buckler were integral to the win. Howington and Buckler recorded four aces apiece, with Howington adding in 10 kills. Wilson set up the offense with nine assists and positive energy all around. Mason Howington recorded a double-double with ten digs to add to the night. 

Scores: 25-15, 26-24

Overall Record: 12-14

Region Record: 5-1
