The road to the Georgia High School Association Baseball State Championships is three weeks in, and the finals will be May 23-25. The quarterfinal round began yesterday for one of two teams left in the state playoffs from the Savannah Area. Benedictine hosted Troupe County and split the doubleheader. Savannah Christian Preparatory School in Class 1A series begins today at SCPS.

The Cadets took game number one in the best of three series 8-1. Benedictine took the lead early, scoring three in the first inning, and never looked back on the way to victory. University Georgia baseball commits Justin Thomas hit his 16th home run in the bottom of the sixth. Benedictine Cadet pitcher Parker McCoy allowed one run on three hits over six innings, striking out four. McCoy was the winning pitcher for Benedictine.

In-game two, Benedictine had an 8 to 5 lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Troup County managed to load the bases with a walk and back-to-back singles in the bottom of the inning. Then the Tiger's junior third baseman Reed Morris who hit a home run in the fifth inning proceeded to hit the walk-off Grand Slam to win the game to force game three to make it a winner-take-all game.

Last Wednesday, May 4, 2022, Savannah Christian preparatory School swept visiting Hebron Christian to advance to the GHSA Class-A Private Elite Eight. Today's opening doubleheader starts at 5 pm at Carl Carter Field at SCPS. The Raiders (27-7) will host Fellowship Christian (26-2) to see who moves onto the GHSA Class 1A Private final four.
