Calvary Day (5-0/11-3) picked up a big victory Tuesday night, shutting out rival Savannah Christian (1-2/7-8) 8-0 in region play at Historic Grayson Stadium, home of the Cavaliers.
Cavalier pitcher Ryan Wallace (W, 4-0) was a force to be reckoned with on the mound, delivering a complete-game shutout. Wallace's performance was giving up just two hits and striking out 13 Raiders batters.
The Cavs wasted no time getting on the board, plating a run in the first inning with Will Hampton getting a hit in his first at-bat. Max Arnold hit a sacrifice fly to score Hampton for the Cavs to take the lead. A lead the Cavs never gave up.
Calvary then exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second. After the Cavs loaded the bases, lead-off hitter Caden Arnold ripped a triple to put Calvary up 5-0 after two innings of play. Calvary would tack on three more as Brooks Phillips led off with a double in the bottom of the third, Waylan Hedik walked, and then after a pop out by Caden Arnold, Hampton singled for two runs batted in to put the Cavs up 7-0.
Offensively, Calvary Day was led by shortstop Caden Arnold, who had a triple, a run scored, and three RBIs, and first baseman Will Hampton, who went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, each driving in multiple runs. The Raiders, who managed just two hits on the night, were a double by Jayden White and a single by Brian Hong.
The Raiders will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they will host the Cavaliers at home on Thursday, March 28, 2024; the first pitch is 5:30 PM.
