The road to Friday nights in the Savannah area is officially taking shape.
The 2026 high school football schedules and composite schedule are out, and there is no shortage of big-time matchups, rivalry games, road tests, and region showdowns waiting this fall.
Now the countdown really begins.
Kickoff times, stadium confirmations, and a few game details are still expected to be announced later, but one thing already feels clear — this could be one of the most interesting football seasons the Coastal Empire has seen in years.
Richmond Hill once again has one of the toughest schedules around. The Wildcats open with Effingham County before facing Liberty County, Ware County, Camden County, Lowndes, and Valdosta later in the season.
That Sept. 4 matchup between Richmond Hill and Jenkins at Richmond Hill Stadium already feels like one of the early games everyone will circle.
Speaking of Jenkins, the Warriors may quietly have one of the toughest schedules in the area. Road trips to Lowndes, Calvary Day, Richmond Hill, Benedictine, and Ware County will test them every single week.
And yes — Oct. 9 at Benedictine has a chance to become one of the biggest games in Savannah this season.
The Cadets also have another loaded slate with Camden County, Statesboro, Wayne County, and Ware County all on the schedule.
Over in Region 3A, some longtime local rivalries return again.
Beach vs. Islands.
Johnson vs. Beach.
Groves vs. Islands.
Johnson vs. Islands.
Those games always seem to bring emotion, energy, and packed sidelines.
One matchup that immediately jumps off the page is Sept. 18 when Savannah Christian travels across town to face Savannah Country Day.
That one has the feel of an old-school Savannah football night.
Calvary Day also has some interesting dates with Jenkins, Bryan County, and Savannah Christian all appearing on the schedule.
And don’t overlook the smaller-school games either.
St. Andrew’s and Savannah Country Day close the regular season against each other on Oct. 30. Bethesda Academy faces Savannah Christian on Aug. 28 and later hosts Savannah Country Day on Sept. 25.
The composite schedule also gives fans a week-by-week look at what could become some huge Friday nights around the area.
Right now, it’s all preseason talk.

Expectations.
But before long, the Friday night lights will come on again.
