The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper released its 2023 preseason All American teams on Monday, and among the players named was Benedictine graduate and current Vanderbilt sophomore, Carter Holton.

Holton, a left-handed pitcher who helped guide Benedictine to the 2018 Class 2A State Championship as a freshman for Kevin Farmer’s Cadets, was 8-4 last season at Vandy, compiling a 3.14 ERA in 15 starts. He struck out 97 batters in 80 innings and was named to the SEC’s All-Freshman team.

Over the summer, the Guyton native played for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team at the 2022 Honkbalweek Haarlem in the Netherlands. He earned a win on the mound for Team USA versus Japan on July 15 (USA won 5-1). In that game, Holton threw two ⅓ innings of no-hit relief while striking out three. He needed just 38 pitches to get seven outs and he struck out the side in the fifth, his final inning of the outing.

While at Benedictine, Holton was the All-Greater Savannah Player of the Year in three of his four prep seasons (2018, 2019, 2021). Only COVID-19 prevented him from being the four-year winner of the award.

Holton and Vandy begin their 2023 season on February 17 in Arlington, Texas against TCU.
