The 2024 Savannah Area High School football season kicked off last night. New Hampstead opened the 2024 season with a 56-35 victory over South Effingham. Tonight's featured game on the Prep Sports Report website will be Savannah Christian hosting Whitefield Academy with some homecoming drama!

Former Raiders teacher and defensive coordinator Robert Walsh returns to Savannah with his Wolfpack football team to take on his former school, SCPS, and friend head coach Baker Woodward. Nathan Dominitz will cover the game for the Prep Sports Report. Whitefield Academy finished 6-6 last season and reached the GHSA second round in Walsh's first year as the head coach.

The Raiders have a lot of talent returning from the GHSA championship run in 2023. It culminated in a 49-28 defeat to Cedar Grove. This year's SCPS team comprises a lot of talent. Senior defensive lineman Elijah Griffin is ranked as the #1 defensive lineman in high school football in the United States by On3.com high school rankings and is the number 8 prospect overall. He is also a Rivals.com five-star prospect. Senior linebacker/tight end Logan Brooking is a three-star prospect at TE/Linebacker and has committed to Clemson. Senior running back Zo Smalls returns as one of the best running backs in the area and has committed to Charleston Southern. Junior Quarterback Blaise Thomas is also returning for his junior year with a lot of experience, and has a wealth of talent in the skill positions, including another offensive standout, senior wide receiver Kenry Wall.
