GHSA State Golf Roundup: Back-to-Back-to-Back for SCPS Girls, BC, SCDS Boys Runner-ups

Savannah Christian Preparatory School senior Mary Miller edged out teammate Ava Cottis in a playoff, and the teammates helped the Red Raiders win the Class 3A state championship. It was Savannah Christian's second straight state 3A championship (2024 & 2023) following their state title in Class A in 2022.

Miller, a senior committed to play at Georgia Southern next year, and Cottis, a junior, tied at 144 after two rounds. The Raiders shot 494 and ran away with the title by 32 strokes. The other SCPS Lady Raiders team members are junior Rylan Hurd and sophomore Charlotte Goodman.

The Savannah Country Day girls' team finished fifth and were led by Junior Kate Barber, who finished 4th overall and senior Bryn Sorge, who finished 10th.

In Class AAA, Savannah Country Day senior Wiliam Whitfield finished second, and the Hornets finished runner-up with Columbus High School behind The Wesleyan School, which successfully defended its title at LaFayette Golf Club.

Benedictine Military School also finished as a runner-up in Class AAAA behind North Oconee at Highland Country Club in LaGrange, Ga. The Cadets were in third place after day one and overtook The Lovett School in round two, propelled by freshman Bear Dollander's score of Even par 72 and seniors Whit Watson and Clayton Ruchalski carding scores of 5-over par 77. The Cadets finished the season as Area 2AA champions and won eight tournaments.

Other notable golfers from the Savannah area included Calvary Day School senior Braylon Royal, who finished tied for sixth after a two-day score of 169 and St. Vincent's Academy senior Tyne Parker, who placed 23rd out of 57 golfers with a two-day total of 195. 

Richmond Hill's sophomore Ledger Conley shot 147 with a score of 69 in round 2 to place 19th in the Class AAAAAAA Boys championship played at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton, Ga. And on the girl's side, Richmond Hill's girls' team finished 9th, led by Alexa Mohler with a 9th place finish after a two-day total of 150.
