For the second year in a row, the St. Andrew's boy's basketball team is the region champions after defeating Frederica Academy 66-43 tonight. The Lions (25-1) came flying out of the gates and quickly put the Knights (14-9) in a 16-2 hole in the first five minutes of the game. From that point, St. Andrew's defense took over and kept Frederica out of reach for the remainder of the game.

Zyere Edwards led all scorers with 25 points while dishing out four assists and grabbing five steals. Zayden Edwards dropped 12 points with four assists and five steals. Will Thompson also added 10 points for the Lions. Frederica was led by Xavier Preston, who had 19 points and ten rebounds.

After the game, it was also announced that Zyere Edwards was awarded the GIAA AAA region player of the year. Along with Edwards, Kaleb Lofton, Will Thompson, and Zayden Edwards were all selected to be on the all-region first team. Rod Conley was chosen for the all-region second team, while RaKari Harrison was an honorable mention for the team.

St. Andrew's now sets its sight on the GIAA AAA state playoffs, where they will look to defend its state championship from last year. The Lions should go into the tournament as the #1 seed. With the top seed, St. Andrew's will receive a bye in the first round of the tournament and will face the winner of the 8 and 9 seeds next Saturday at 3 pm in Macon.
