Thirty-nine goals in 14 matches—that’s the pace sophomore Alyssa Gibson has set this season, leading Calvary Day School to another region championship.

Gibson has been a key part of the Lady Cavaliers’ success, earning Optim Sports Medicine Athlete of the Week honors on March 5.

She was also named Wetherington Chiropractic Clinic Athlete of the Week on the Savannah Sports Report on March 11, 2026. (Click link to watch the interview.)

Alyssa has been part of Calvary girls’ back-to-back region titles, as the Lady Cavaliers last night won 3-0 over Islands High School to win the regular season GHSA 3A-Region 3 title.

Alyssa Gibson credits much of her success to her confidence and her teammates. “I think confidence has something to do with it, but I also think my teammates do a really good job of training for each other and setting me up for success,” she said. Having a strong team around her helps her play even better for Calvary Day School.

A teammate, Macy Watkins (10th grade), describes Alyssa as someone who strengthens the entire team dynamic. “Even though she has a lot of experience, she’s very intentional about involving others and showing good sportsmanship,” Watkins said. Alyssa scores often, but she gives credit to her teammates for the assists and helps others improve.

Scoring goals is one of the most exciting parts of the game for Alyssa. She describes it as an adrenaline rush, followed by excitement as she celebrates with her teammates. The team’s strong chemistry makes those moments even more meaningful.

To continue improving, Alyssa works both during and outside of practice. The team focuses on fundamental drills to sharpen their skills. She also trains on her own. “At night, I’ll go to a field and do personal training,” Alyssa said. She also works on conditioning to stay in shape throughout the season.

One of her favorite moments this season came during a big win against Glynn Academy, one of the top teams in the area. The team scored four goals in the game, showing its early-season potential to compete with teams in higher classifications.

With confidence, hard work, and a team-first mindset, Alyssa continues to stand out this season. She is helping lead Calvary as the team looks to achieve more success in the state playoffs.
