Two out of three girls' teams advance to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) next round, with Jenkins and Bradwell securing playoff victories. Meanwhile, with key games in GHSA and Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) on the hardwood today, boys' teams take the court as they try to win and stay in for a spot in the next round.
Jenkins Secures Playoff Victory Over #1 Seed Pickens, 48-39
On Tuesday night, the #8 seeded Jenkins Warriors (20-8) punched their ticket to the next round of the playoffs with a hard-fought 48-39 road win over the #1 seeded Pickens Dragons (27-3) out of Jasper, GA.
At halftime, Jenkins trailed 19-18 but took control in the second half, outscoring Pickens 30-20 down the stretch. The Warriors' picked up the defensive intensity and clutch shooting in the fourth quarter sealed the victory, as they outscored the Dragons 17-10 in the final quarter.
The Warriors play again on Friday, Feb. 28, with a game time set for 1 p.m. at Fort Valley State vs. Cherokee Bluff (23-8), which enters the match at No. 8 in Class 3A.
Bradwell Stuns Woodward with a 60-58 Buzzer-Beater Victory!
Also, on Tuesday night, Bradwell Institute bought its ticket to the GHSA Class 5A Final Four with a thrilling 60-58 victory over Woodward Academy. Senior standout Parris Parham delivered in the clutch, sinking a contested game-winning shot off an inbound pass with 3.4 seconds remaining.
The Tigers (26-3), the Region 1-5A champions, will now face No. 2-ranked Langston Hughes (27-2) in the semifinals at Georgia State University on Feb. 28.
Calvary Falls to St. Francis in Quarterfinals
Meanwhile, Calvary Day's season ended in the GHSA 1A—3A Private School state quarterfinals, with the #7 seeded Cavaliers falling 86-48 on the road against powerhouse #2 seeded St. Francis (28-2). The Cavaliers ended their campaign with a solid 19-10 record.
