The Prep Sports Report Volleyball Player of the Week honor goes to The Habersham School’s Myla Shippy, who showcased her all-around game with standout performances in three matches last week. The 10th-grade outside hitter filled up the stat sheet with consistent offensive and defensive statistics, helping the Lady Patriots secure key wins.
Shippy was big at the net for the Patriots and from the service line. Against Effingham, she recorded 7 kills, 2 aces, and 5 digs. She followed that effort with 12 kills, 2 digs, and 1 ace against Savannah Arts before capping her week with 15 kills, 9 aces, and 2 digs in a matchup against Trinity. Her ability to score from both the front row and back row made her a constant threat across all rotations, according to Habersham head coach Susan Barry.
“Myla is passing and attacking at a high level, playing all six rotations and making an impact everywhere on the court,” said Barry. “She’s a complete player who gives us confidence in every phase of the game.”
With her balanced game and competitive edge, Shippy has emerged as one of the area’s top volleyball players to watch. The Habersham School 11-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play looks to continue its momentum this week with four big matches, and Shippy’s all-around play will remain a key factor in the team’s success.
