Royal running away with Savannah Junior City Am after first round 67

Calvary Day School senior started his defense of the 2022 Savannah Junior City Amateur title with a 4-under par 67 at Bacon Park Golf Course on August 26 that provides him with a big cushion heading into the second round.

Royal leads Savannah Country Day 8th grader Kohki Maeda by nine strokes entering the second round. In the Girls Junior City Am, Statesboro's Madison Woodrum was the only player to break 80 after a 5-over par 76, and she will start the second round with a seven-stroke lead over Savannah's May Lilja-Vazquez.

In the Boys 10-12 age group, Richmond Hill's Sahaj Patel and Guyton's Adler Saxton are tied atop the leaderboard following first round scores of 4-over 75. They are being chased by Savannah's Carson Hayes, who shot 6-over 77 as well as Henry Anderson after a 7-over 78 and Savannah's Rivers Hood after a score of 8-over 79.

Richmond Hill's Kyle Price is in command in the Boys 13-14 age group after a solid score of 83 in the first round. And Boys 15-18, Peyton Diekemper and  Lou Lively are tied for the lead after steady round of 85.
