The 2025 Savannah-area high school football season is wrapping up, which means it's crunch time to see which teams make the playoffs! The scenarios are below.
On Thursday night, Benedictine rolled past New Hampstead 49-13, and Bethesda closed its perfect run with a 51-7 win over St. John’s Christian. The rest of the area takes the field tonight, October 31, with region titles, playoff spots, and postseason seeding on the line.
The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) football playoffs will have teams seeded according to the following procedure, as outlined in the GHSA constitution after tonight's games.
In Classes 1A-2, 4A, 5A, and 6A, the top four teams from each region will advance to the postseason. For Classes 1A-1, 2A, 3A, and the Private divisions (1-3), playoff spots and seedings are decided by the GHSA Postseason Ranking Formula (PSRF), which ranks teams statewide based on their season performance.
GHSA Class 6A – Region 1
Colquitt County (3-1, 7-2) travels to Richmond Hill (2-2, 6-3) in a matchup that will decide which team earns the No. 3 and No. 4 playoff seeds.
GHSA Class 5A – Region 1
Effingham County (6-1, 7-2) visits Statesboro (6-1, 7-2) for the Region 1-5A championship. If Statesboro wins, the Blue Devils will claim the title outright and secure the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Effingham can win the title if it wins and South Effingham (4-3, 4-5) beats Brunswick (6-1, 7-2), which would shift playoff seeding and home-field advantage.
Bradwell Institute (2-5, 2-6) hosts Evans (2-5, 2-7) as both teams' playoff hopes have ended, while Brunswick and Effingham are still fighting for a higher seeding to improve their postseason paths.
GHSA Class 4A – Region 1
Benedictine (4-0, 7-2) clinched the region title last week and closed its regular season Thursday with a 49-13 win over New Hampstead (1-4, 2-8). New Hampstead season comes to an end.
GHSA Class 3A – Region 3
Jenkins (8-0, 8-1) already secured the region crown and the top seed in the playoffs and hosts Johnson (2-6, 2-7) tonight at Garden City Stadium, a game without playoff implications for Johnson.
Calvary Day School (7-1, 8-1) hosts Liberty County (6-2, 7-2); both teams have already clinched playoff berths and are playing to determine seeding.
Long County (5-3, 6-3) welcomes Islands (1-7, 1-8), while Beach (5-3, 5-3) travels to Southeast Bulloch (4-4, 4-5); both games will finalize which teams earn playoff spots based on the GHSA’s post season ranking formula.
Groves (0-8, 0-9) meets Windsor Forest (2-6, 3-6) in a game with no playoff implications, with both teams playing for pride.
GHSA Class 1A – Division I, Region 3
It’s a battle for the region title as Savannah Christian (3-0, 6-3) visits Toombs County (3-0, 8-1), with the winner earning the No. 1 playoff seed from the region.
Vidalia (0-3, 1-8) travels to Savannah Country Day (0-3, 3-6), with both playing for final postseason ranking positions, both are playing for a higher seed based on the GHSA’s post season ranking formula.
GHSA Class 1A – Division II, Region 3
Bryan County (4-3, 5-4) heads to Metter (3-4, 4-5) in third place, as stated on the MaxPreps.com website. Both teams are still in the running for the 3rd and 4th place spots in the standings, alongside Jenkins County and McIntosh Academy.
Here is how it might play out for Bryan County. Jenkins County and McIntosh County hold the upper hand right now with a 2–1 record in head-to-head region play against the other three teams. Bryan County is 1-1 and controls its own fate — a win tonight will cause a tiebreaker for the last playoff spot. If Metter 0-2, beats Bryan Co., then the Redskins are out of the playoffs.
Jenkins County (4-3, 5-4) travels to Savannah High (1-6, 1-7) for the Blue Jackets’ final game, with Jenkins County aiming to lock in the best possible postseason ranking.
GIAA District 2 (AAAA/AAA)
Bulloch Academy (2-1, 7-3), Frederica Academy (3-0, 8-2), Pinewood Christian (1-2, 4-6), and St. Andrew’s School (0-3, 3-7) round out the standings as St. Andrew’s season comes to an end, with the remaining teams finalizing their playoff matchups based on district results.
SCISA Class 2A – Region 1
Bethesda Academy (4-0, 9-0) completed a perfect regular season Thursday night, defeating St. John’s Christian (0-4, 0-9) 49-14. The Blazers have already clinched the region championship and will enter the SCISA playoffs as the No. 1 seed.
Up Next:
When the final whistles blow Friday night, the playoff brackets will be set. Some teams will celebrate new life in the postseason, while others will turn the page toward 2026 — but every program across the 912 finished this fall with pride.
