Amber Whitten, a senior at South Effingham High School, played soccer for the Lady Mustangs for four seasons. South Effingham kicked off the season with an overall 3-3 record and 1-1 in the region before they ceased the campaign because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Whitten has played many positions for South Effingham and played outside midfielder for the Savannah United Club team. Amber’s athletic career proudest’s moments are being able to extend playing the sport she loves in college at Wesleyan College in Macon and receiving the Most Valuable Player award from her eighth-grade season.

Whitten’s road to being a standout soccer player all began when her she was in kindergarten class and her friends wanted her to play recreation soccer with them. Well, that’s what her parents did, signed her up, and she has never looked back. In high school, Amber gives credit to all her coaches as having a big impact on her career: Coach Robert, Coach Johnson, Coach Morgan, Coach Pittman, Coach Lee, and all of her recreation league coaches.  Whitten’s favorite coaches quote comes from Coach Johnson, “A good athlete’s lunch is not one piece of lettuce and a crouton.” Amber will continue playing in college and where she plans on studying Biology. Whitten also plans on working on a dual major in Pharmaceutical Sciences to become a pharmacist.
