SPAL Basketball Wrap-Up: Who Took Home the "SHIP"?

SPAL Basketball Championship Recap 2024-25

The Savannah Parochial Athletic League (SPAL) 2024-25 basketball season concluded with thrilling championship games, crowning winners across multiple divisions. Teams showcased their determination and skill, earning titles in a competitive season. Several schools stood out with strong performances, including Savannah Country Day, St. James, Blessed Sacrament, and Hancock Day, each claiming multiple titles across the boys' and girls' divisions. Memorial Day, St. Peter's, and St. Andrew's each claimed one championship. Their success brought the league teams into the spotlight as they guided a tough season and ultimately took home the "SHIP." 

 

Girls Division Champions 

Developmental: #1 Memorial Day (3-0) completed an undefeated season by defeating #3 Savannah Christian (2-2) 39-7 in the championship game.

 

Memorial Day Roster: Ameriah Young, Aaliyah Johnson, Reese Johnson, Chloe McGrath, Gracelynn Smart, Ma'Kenzie Gaines, Kaylei Stewart, Mia Sanders, Breyelle Givens, Nia Slaugter

Coaches: Meagan Jackson, Caroline McGrath

 

5th Grade: #2 Savannah Country Day (5-1-1) claimed the title with a 16-12 victory over #1 St. Andrew's (7-2).

 

Savannah Country Day Roster: Emmaline Behm, Edith Chase, Emma Davis, Vibhuti Derola, Elin Dew, Aleena Jagielka, Wren Kenney, Mae Keever Mingledorff, Silia Salzillo, Jane Shipley, Allison Simeral, Skylar Sullivan, Grace Vlahos

5th Grade Coaches: Whit Davis, Marc Kenney, Valerie Simeral

 

6th Grade: #2 St. Andrew's (10-0) edged past #5 Savannah Country Day in a hard-fought 33-28 championship win.

 

St. Andrew's Roster: Lily Anderson, Ivy Cetti, Ava Cutrer, Kaitlyn Chu-Pruden, Evie Cremeans, Johanna Hall, Harper Kingery, Callie Smith, Ruby Solomon, Jane Tucker

6th Grade Coach: Matthew Cremeans

 

7th Grade: #1 Savannah Country Day (4-0) secured the championship with a 25-22 victory over #2 Blessed Sacrament (3-1).

 

Savannah Country Day Roster: Grace Brown, Ava Christoph, Madelyn Lanham, Anna Nicholson, Harper Sheridan, Stafford Varnedoe, Shelby Vick, Emmaline Weimar, Sidney Weimar, Charlotte Williams

7th Grade Coaches: Stacy Bazemore, Madeline Wynn

 

8th Grade: #1 Blessed Sacrament (6-0) won the SPAL title, defeating #2 Savannah Country Day (5-2) 20-16.

 

Blessed Sacrament Roster: Caroline Swinson, Liza Joyner, Winnie Estabrook, Julia Lilly, Louisa Lilly, Liv Mac, Emily Whittle, Georgia Campbell, Kiersten Summerlin, Emi Rojas

Coaches: Ryan Deletre, Ange Tambone, John Swinson

 

Boys Division Champions 

 

Developmental: #1 Hancock Day School (6-1) secured the title with a tough win over #3 Habersham (7-1).

Hancock Day School Roster: Rex Ziegler, John Frohm, Rives Juz, Noah De Castro, Asher Ward, Cason Rountree, Ashwin Deshpande, Flynn Kilpatrick, Beau Koncul, Wesley Embry, Mason Stegell.

Coach: Andy Roundtree

 

5th Grade: #1 Hancock Day School (7-1) won the championship, defeating #2 Blessed Sacrament (7-1).

 

Hancock Day School Roster: John Perkins, Walker Hassallo, Grady Thompson, Beau Headley, Graham Cox, Gordon Juz William Cameron, Marshall Romano, Vansh Patel, John Klein, Luke Butler.

Coaches: Vladimer DeCarnes

 

6th Grade: #2 Savannah Christian (9-2) defeated #1 Hancock (7-0) in a close championship battle.

Savannah Christian Roster: Matthew Ward, Connor Vasquez, Caleb Nix, James Butler, Brooks Darling, Jace Smith, Kale Andrews, Shane Edenfield, Cam Pennamon, Hudson Hunt, Jack Rossi

Coaches: Zach Darling, Chad Boatright

 

7th Grade Big Division: #1 St. James (9-0) dominated #2 Savannah Country Day 40-12 to win their second consecutive SPAL championship.

 

St. James Roster: Kareem Wall, Colton Goka, Wyatt Harvey, Grayson Bruce, Grady Pace, Landon Lambros, Ben Parsons, Andy Himbert, Garret Woelber, Blake Grayson, Will Wallace

Coach: Kareem Wall

 

7th Grade Small Division: #2 St. Peters (3-4) upset #1 Memorial Day (4-3), winning the championship 34-33.

 

St. Peter's Roster: Luke Babbitt, Desmond Hennessy, Tommy Madison, Noah Morris, Ben Moye, Luke Moye, Conner Schnabel

Coaches: Donnie Bell and Ben Moye

 

8th Grade: #1 St. James (8-0) finished an undefeated season with a championship victory over #3 Hancock (6-2).

 

St. James Roster: Jackson Call, Kyree Richards, Tristan Garvin, Andrew Wiggins, Cooper Gustwick, Reese Rose, Bo Little

Coaches: Travis Wiggins, Kegan Richards

 

The 2024-25 SPAL season was marked by intense competitions, thrilling finishes, and unforgettable championship moments that will be cherished for years.
