The St. Vincent's Academy trio of freshmen Kaylyn Gill, Briana Tuten, and Megan Warren traveled to the "Clash" Association of Volleyball Professionals Grass tour in Colombia, South Carolina, on April 27th and spiked the tournament to get top honors in junior age group, going 5-0. The AVP grass tour is the same as the AVP beach volleyball tour, except they play as a team of three on grass, whereas in the sand, it's a team of two.

Beach or grass volleyball is something familiar to St. Vincent's Academy. Beach volleyball has been going strong for three years as a sport at the school. It is not a Georgia High School Association sport yet, but colleges now offer scholarships, according to Athletic Director Nichols St. Louis. St. Vincent's program has grown from two teams of two-three years ago to six doubles teams that train at SVA.

The teams train February-May with St. Vincent's beach coach Michael O'Donovan. There are teams in Hilton Head, Florida, and thorughout the southeast. According to St. Louis, for the girls to play have to do a lot of traveling to get to tournaments.  "The girls love it, and it's another way to get them seen since scholarships dfor beach volleyball are available because it is a college sport now."

The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) is the most extensive and longest-running professional beach volleyball tour in the United States. That has three different levels: AVPFirst, the youth level; AVPNext, a developmental circuit; and AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. AVP organization was founded in 1983.
