The high school fall sports season is down to its final few weeks, and plenty of Savannah-area teams are still playing.

Softball and volleyball are in the GHSA Sweet 16 this week, and the GIAA cross country state championships are Saturday in Macon.

And here's one worth keeping an eye on. Bryan County heads to Savannah Arts Academy on Tuesday for another volleyball showdown between the two region rivals. They've played each other before, but this time the winner moves on and the loser goes home.

Seven area volleyball teams are still playing. South Effingham, Richmond Hill, and Savannah Christian will host, while Islands and Southeast Bulloch hit the road.

On the softball diamond, four area teams are still in the hunt. Long County, South Effingham and Richmond Hill host their Sweet 16 series Wednesday, while Effingham County travels to Loganville.

St. Vincent's Academy's softball season ended Monday when it lost its best-of-three series to top-seeded Prince Avenue Christian in two games. The Saints reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.

And don't forget the runners. Savannah Country Day and St. Andrew's head to Macon on Saturday for the GIAA state cross country championships.
