In recent years, the Savannah area has become a quarterback hotbed, producing names like Benedictine’s Luke Kromenhoek (Mississippi State), Holden Geriner (Texas State), and Calvary Day’s Jake Merklinger(Tennessee).
That tradition continues in 2025 with a new wave of talented arms ready to take over the spotlight. Here’s a breakdown of the top returning quarterbacks by class as the season kicks off in August.
SENIORS
STEPHEN CANNON – BENEDICTINE
One of the most talented athletes in the area, Cannon bounced back from a midseason injury to lead the Cadets into the playoffs. In just seven games, he passed for 1,352 yards, 11 TDs, 5 INTs, and rushed for 147 yards and three scores. The Texas Tech commit returns as one of Georgia’s most dynamic senior QBs.
ERIK HOCKMAN – NEW HAMPSTEAD
After backing up star Ra’Shawn Truell last season, Hockman is ready for the spotlight. He’ll have a reliable target in his twin brother Ben Hockman, a Cornell commit. Erik’s athleticism and chemistry with his receivers will be key for the Phoenix this fall.
DEMETRIUS HOLLOWAY – JENKINS
A dual-threat option, Holloway kept defenses guessing with 1,013 passing yards, 14 TDs, just 2 INTs, and 232 rushing yards for five scores. He helped the Warriors reach the second round of the GHSA Class 3A playoffs.
TUCKER PERKINS – EFFINGHAM COUNTY
Perkins exploded in his first year as the starter, passing for 2,746 yards, 33 TDs, and 6 INTs while completing 68% of his throws. He was named Region 1-5A Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-Greater Savannah honors. The 6-foot-3 senior brings size, poise, and production to the Rebels’ offense.
BLAISE THOMAS – SAVANNAH CHRISTIAN
Thomas enters his third season as the Raiders’ starter. Last fall, he passed for 794 yards, 9 TDs, 6 INTs, and rushed for 382 yards and four touchdowns. He helped lead Savannah Christian to the 3A state finals in 2023 and remains one of the area’s most experienced leaders under center.
JUNIORS
OMARI BURSE – BENEDICTINE
When Cannon was sidelined last year, Burse kept the Cadets moving forward. He passed for 988 yards, 8 TDs, and completed 62% of his throws. He also ran for two scores and helped BC win two playoff games. With another year of growth, Burse could be a breakout candidate.
JAH’BARRI FELIX – BRADWELL INSTITUTE
Felix transferred from Liberty County and brings substantial numbers with him: 1,479 passing yards, 8 TDs, 7 INTs, and 334 rushing yards with five scores. His dual-threat ability makes him one of the most exciting juniors to watch in 2025.
JAMES MOBLEY IV – CALVARY DAY
Mobley had one of the most efficient seasons in Georgia in 2024. In his first year as a starter, he completed 77% of his passes for 2,569 yards, 36 TDs, and just 3 INTs. He was named Region 3-3A Co-Offensive Player of the Year and helped the Cavaliers win the region.
JAYVION WILLIAMS – BEACH
Williams helped turn around the Beach program, leading the Bulldogs from a 1-9 record to 5-5 last fall. He threw for 895 yards, rushed for 275 yards, and earned All-Region 3-3A first-team honors.
SOPHOMORE
JORDAN TURNER – BETHESDA ACADEMY
As a freshman, Turner led the Blazers to the SCISA 2A state finals. He threw for 1,434 yards, 11 TDs, 9 INTs, and rushed for 180 yards and a touchdown. Already an All-Region pick, he enters 2025 as one of the Coastal Empire’s top underclassmen.
UP NEXT:
Scrimmages begin in early August, with regular-season games starting the third weekend in August. With this much talent at quarterback, fans should expect a season full of highlight throws, clutch drives, and playoff pushes across the Savannah area.
