Who's Safe and Who's Out in State Playoffs? The Final Week, Standings Posted

The 2025 high school baseball regular season is entering Week 10, and local teams across all classifications are making their final push for the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA), and Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools (GAPPS) state playoffs. With just one week left, the pressure is on.

Some programs, like Richmond Hill (6A), Effingham County (5A), Benedictine (4A), Calvary Day (3A), Savannah Christian (A Division I), and Bryan County (A Division I), are in strong positions to secure playoff spots or even win their regions. Others are fighting for every win—and watching the tiebreakers closely.

Some will play in regional tournaments, while some will not. The brackets will be set by next week, and the postseason will begin. Two local coaches, Eric McCombie of Effingham and Calvary Day Phillip Lee, responded about what is set up for their teams this week.

In GHSA Class 5A baseball, Effingham County will host Brunswick in the Region Semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Glynn Academy will also be in action, hosting Greenbrier. The winners of those two matchups will advance to Thursday's Region Championship, while the losing teams will meet to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds heading into the state playoffs. These games will help determine the final region standings and state playoff seeding.

In GHSA Class 3A Region 3, a crossover tournament between the two sub-regions will take place this week. The matchups include Johnson (#4 seed) traveling to Calvary Day (#1), Islands (#4) taking on Jenkins (#1), Beach (#3) facing Southeast Bulloch (#3), and Groves (#2) going on the road to face Long County (#2). These games will help determine the region champion but not playoff seeding because of the GHSA's new playoff format for Class 3A.

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has also confirmed that the same playoff format used in football and basketball will now apply to baseball—for Class A, 2A, and 3A. That means public and private schools in those classes will no longer face each other in the playoffs. Instead, they'll be split and seeded using a power rating system.

The traditional GHSA  playoff format remains for Class 4A, 5A, and 6A. The top four teams from each region will advance to the state playoffs. Here is the GHSA State Baseball Playoff schedule:

2025 Playoff Schedule

  • First Round: April 23–26
  • Second Round: April 29–May 2
  • Quarterfinals: May 7–8
  • Semifinals: May 13–14
  • State Championships: May 19–22

Championship games will be held at neutral sites, including Georgia Southern, Rome, and Coolray Field.

GIAA and GAPPS Playoffs

St. Andrew's competes in the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA), and their regular season wraps up on May 3. Meanwhile, Habersham School will kick off the playoffs in the Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools (GAPPS) on April 25-26.

With Week 10 standings nearly finalized, all that remains is the final sprint. The following week will decide who's in and out and who could make a deep postseason run. Here are the most recent standings as posted on MaxPreps.com.
