Week 8 Baseball Standings and Outlook

Several teams are swinging for the fences to finish the season in first place with only two weeks left. Who are they? Effingham County (21-3) leads the way this week. The Rebels are ranked No. 7 in GHSA Class 5A and are on a six-game winning streak. Effingham will clinch the region title with one more win over region opponent Brunswick.

Calvary Day School (16-7) is also ranked No. 7 in the GHSA Class 3A Coaches Box Week 7 poll. The Cavaliers hold a strong lead in their region and face Islands High School in a three-game series this week.

OUTLOOK

Richmond Hill (16-9/8-4) will battle Colquitt County (11-12/8-4) this week with second place in the region on the line.

Benedictine (12-12/5-4) plays Ware County (20-2/9-0), the No. 1 team in their region, in a key matchup for the Cadets' playoff seeding.

Savannah Christian is in third place because the Raiders dropped two of three games to region-leading Toombs County. They'll face Swainsboro next week in a battle for second place in the region.

Other local teams that received votes in the Coaches Box poll include Richmond Hill and South Effingham.
