Jenkins High School is named for the late local philanthropist, Herschel Vespasian Jenkins. In the early 1990s, the school was expanded with several new buildings, including a new social studies building, expanded science building, a new technology building, and a new gymnasium. The old gym was then renovated into an auditorium. The existing buildings heavily remodeled with the renovation complete by the 1992-93 school year. Jenkins was named a Blue Ribbon School in 1997 and a School of Excellence in 1998.
