Benedictine blanks Burke County, 41–0
Cadets dominate on both lines
Benedictine’s defense held Burke County to 114 yards (66 yds rushing, 48 passing) total offense for the game and led 14–0 at halftime on Aug. 29 after a screen TD from Stephen Cannon to Bubba Frazier and a 55-yard Cannon-to-Frazier strike, then pulled away with three long runs in the second half.
Offense: Cannon (TD passes 55, 21; 28-yd TD run), Stanley Smart (86-yd TD), Cole Henderson (70-yd TD), Chris Stokes (5-yd TD), Bubba Frazier (2 TD Catches).
Defense: Kam Cody, Issac Scott, and Gavin Smith led the front vs. the run.
Special Teams: Parker Lewis 5–6 extra-points.
Turning Point (Head Coach Danny Britt): “Stephen Cannon’s 28 yard rushing touchdown to get the second half scoring started and extend the lead to 21-0 catapulted us into a more productive and physical second half.”
Quote (Head Coach Danny Britt): “Burke County has such a great program. We’ve had some memorable games with them in the past decade. They were able to make things difficult on our offense in the first half. Fortunately, our defense played really well upfront and allowed our offense to find their footing in the second half and pull away. We still need to fix some things and we definitely need to limit our penalties, but it was a good win against a good team on the road. We will use the next few weeks to heal up, tweak some things, and be ready to go for Westminster and a difficult region schedule.”
Next Up: Benedictine (1-2) has the next two weeks off and will be at Westminster on Friday, September 19.
