Back to Back to state champs come out shooting a 1st Place - BC GIAA Clay Target team

They're back, shooting clays and taking first place to start the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) Clay Target season. The defending back-to-back Georgia Independent Schools Association Clay Target  2020 & 2021 Champion, the Benedictine Military Clay Target team, took the first GIAA qualifier of the season. The qualifier occurred last Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Forest City Gun Club.

 

The Cadets Clay Target team won its first qualifying match of the 2022 season, accumulating the most points out of the 13 schools competing in the GIAA first qualifier of the year. Benedictine was 22 points ahead of the second-place team, Tattnall Square Academy, and 27 points ahead of the third-place team, Savannah Country Day. Pinewood Christian placed fourth, followed by Savannah Christian at fifth. The team score is based on the top five players' total scores, which in this case are the number of birds (clays) hit out of 1000 targets thrown. The disciplines (events) are Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clay.

 

Leading the Cadets and finishing in the top ten shooters were as follows: in second place, sophomore Drake Cooper 187, junior Jake Dyches 186 placed fourth, junior Jackson Ferland 185 sixth, and tied for ninth junior Charlie Moody 179. The other top five shooters for the Cadets was freshman Sam Anderson with a score of 171.  

 

Cadet Highlights: Jake Dyches shot a 50/50 in Trap; Charlie Moody shot a 50/50 in Skeet, Drake Cooper shot a 49/50 in Skeet, Jim Reynolds Morrison shot a 49/50 in Skeet, Charlie Moody shot a 48/50 in Trap, Jack McKenzie shot a 48/50 in Skeet, Drake Cooper shot a 93/100 in Sporting, Jackson Ferland shot a 92/100 in Sporting.
