BC hires two teachers who will coach football, lacrosse and swimming

Benedictine Military School Principal Mr. Jacob Horne announced today that Mr. Matthew Burke, a mathematics teacher and assistant coach in football and lacrosse; and Ms. Maly Taylor as a science (physics) teacher and assistant coach in swimming, will join BC’s faculty for the 2020-21 school year.

Burke comes to BC from Shorter University in Rome, Ga., where he is pursuing a master’s degree in management and also serves as the football team’s running backs coach. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2017 from Georgia Southern University. Burke coached against BC several times while at Fitzgerald High School, where he was an assistant offensive line coach from 2013-15. Burke also served as a football assistant coach at Statesboro High School (2015-17) and Worth County High School (2017-18). He graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 2012.

Taylor earned a master’s degree in physics in 2018 from Clemson University, where she served as a graduate teaching assistant in physics and astronomy for two years. A double-major in the College of Charleston’s Honors College, Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree in physics/astrophysics in 2016. She also competed as an NCAA swimmer at the College of Charleston. Taylor minored in mathematics and presently works as both a private tutor and Mathnasium instructor in Greensboro, N.C. She graduated from Westside High School in Anderson, S.C., in 2012.
