The Benedictine Military School golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the Granger Classic being played at Callway Gardens and Resort the Highland Country Club April 11-13.
The Cadets poste a team score of 298 during a wet, windy first round played on the Lake View course at Callaway Gardens on April 11. The Cadets were led by sophomore Hamp Threlkeld's 1-over par 71 and senior Whit Watson's 3-over 73, and other counting scores included freshman Jack Weeks' 7-over par 77 and senior Clayton Ruchalski's 7-over 77.
Threlkeld sits in ffith place on the individual leaderboard after dipping as low as 2-under par during the first round before the worst of the bad weather arrived near the end of the round. He is only three strokes behind leaders Ben Holland from Smiths Station High School and Landon Noble from Northgate High School, who both posted scores of 2-under par 68.
The second round is being played on April 12 on the Mountain View course at Callaway Gardens. After the second round, the top eight teams on the leaderboard will move on to the third round that will be played April 13 at Highlands Country Club in LaGrange, Ga.
