Pembroke, GA. - In a game that was another first, the Bryan County Redskins defeated the Pelham Hornets 34-8. By advancing to the Georgia High School Association Football Elite Eight round of the playoffs, it is another first time in school history.
Bryan County had a total of 481 yards of offense, including 383 yards rushing. The Redskins were led by a stellar performance from senior running back linebacker Austin "Smush" Clemons, who rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. He also added two two-point conversions. Clemons, on defense, had seven tackles. Senior running back Jacari Carney rushed for 103 Yards on 17 carries as the two running backs combined for 281 yards rushing.
On defense, senior linebacker wide receiver Tanner Ennis had a game-high 15 total tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss and one sack. Ennis also had two receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Senior middle linebacker Luke Holcombe added 11 tackles, including one tackle for a loss and one sack. Senior quarterback strong safety Sean Kelly Hill had eight tackles, including two tackles for a loss, and completed 5 of 7 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.
The Redskins' victory marks the culmination of a season of firsts for the program. Early this year, Bryan County won its first-ever region championship and first-ever playoff game in the first round.
With their win over Pelham, the Redskins have now won 7 games in a row. Bryan County (11-1) versus Commerce High School (11-1) in the Elite Eight round this Friday at home with a 7 pm kickoff.
