Catching up with the Savannah Quarterback Players of the Week for weeks 8-11

The Savannah Quarterback Club has honored local high school football players for the past eleven weeks for the 2022 season by inviting these outstanding football players on Mondays during their weekly meeting on the Southside. The Prep Sports Report has posted the first seven weeks' winners. Here are weeks eight through eleven winners who were handed off  their trophies by the Captian at the meetings.

 

Week Eleven

Zayden Edwards, QB St. Andrews

The Savannah Quarterback Club offensive player of the week for week 11 was Zayden Edwards, the Quarterback for St. Andrews. The sophomore quarterback completed 13 of 26 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 72 yards and two more scores in a 30-26 win over Bulloch Academy.

 

 

 

 

Za’Quan Bryan, CB Benedictine Military School

The Savannah Quarterback Club Defensive player of the week for week 11 was Za’Quan Bryan, a Cornerback for Benedictine Military School. The senior cornerback had four tackles, one pass break up, and two interceptions on defense and added 23 rushing yards, 45 receiving yards, and one touchdown reception on offense in BCs dominant win over Islands high school.

 

 

 

 

 

Week Ten

Michael Smith, TE Calvary

The Savannah Quarterback Club offensive player of the week for week 10was Michael Smith, the Tight End for Calvary Day School. The junior hadthree receptions, all for touchdowns, for 109 yards in the Cavaliers’ 56-13 victory over Savannah Country Day. 

 

 

 

Jeremiah Thomas, DT Benedictine Military School

The Savannah Quarterback Club Defensive player of the week for week 10 was Jerimiah Thomas, a Defensive Tackle for Benedictine Military School. The Junior defensive lineman had six tackles, with two tackles for a loss and a sack in a 31-10 win over Wayne County.

 

 

 

 

 

Week Nine

Jake Merklinger, QB Calvary

The Savannah Quarterback Club offensive player of the week for week 9 was Jake Merklinger, the Quarterback for Calvary Day School. The junior quarterback was 9 of 16 passing for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for 36 yards on seven carries in a 42-0 win over Johnson High on homecoming.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tavion Gadson, DT Jenkins High School

The Savannah Quarterback Club Defensive player of the week for week 9 was Tavion Gadson, a Defensive Tackle for Jenkins High School. The senior defensive lineman had eight tackles and a pair of sacks in a 32-25 win over Greenbrier. 

 

 

 

 

 

Week Eight

Luke Kromenhoek, QB Benedictine Military

The Savannah Quarterback Club offensive player of the week for week 8 was Luke Kromenhoek, the Quarterback for Benedictine Military School. The junior quarterback ran for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns and was 12 of 20 passing for 137 yards and two more scores as Benedictine beat previously undefeated Burke County 28-3. 

 

 

 

 

Alijah Lacey, DE/WR New Hampstead High School

The Savannah Quarterback Club Defensive player of the week for week 8 was Alijah Lacey, a Defensive End for New Hampstead High School. The Senior Defensive end had seven tackles, caused and recovered a fumble, and scored a defensive touchdown in their win over Southeast Bulloch High School.
