Gracie LaFleur, a junior catcher at Effingham County High School this season, has been recognized as this week's John Carr Seaport Real Estate Softball Player of the Week for September 2-7. In two games against Statesboro and Richmond Hill, LeFleur had an outstanding week in two crucial region games for the Rebels, where she displayed impressive performances in both games.
On Tuesday, September 3, Effingham won 8-0 at home against Statesboro; LaFleur was 3- 3 with a double and three runs batted in. The next game wasn't at let off at the plate. Gracie's hot bat continued on Thursday, September 5, as the Rebels faced Richmond Hill on the road.
Again, LaFleur's bat came through when it mattered. During the top of the 5th inning, Effingham trailed 2-1; she hit a 2-run home run that put her team ahead 3 to 2. In the top of the 7th inning and with two outs with a runner on second, LaFleur nailed her second double of the game, giving the Rebels a crucial insurance run to seal the 4-2 victory for Effingham. Gracie went 4-4 at the plate in the game, including a single, two doubles, and a home run, and had 3 RBIs. Her reliability and knack for delivering during situations are the qualities that make her one of the stand-out softball players to watch in the area.
Speaking about LaFleur's play last week, Effingham Head Softball Coach Brad Thompson remarked, "Gracie is a student of the game, and her numbers are proof." Last season, as a sophomore, LaFleur batted a.358 with a remarkable OBP of 453, 13 doubles, three homers, and 22 runs. She was selected All-Region 2-6A. Congratulations, Gracie, on an exceptional week!
