Tamiya Washington delivered clutch plays on both offense and defense when Groves (13-1) needed them most.
In two games last week on October 23, facing Claxton and Savannah Christian, the junior QB/safety threw for 402 yards and 4 touchdowns. She also ran for one touchdown and grabbed three interceptions on defense. That two-way performance earns her the Grassi Roofing Prep Sports Report Flag Football Player of the Week honor.
Coach Johnny Anderson kept it simple: “Tamiya Washington’s playmaking abilities offensively and defensively are next level.”
That performance was no fluke. Over 13 games, Washington has thrown for 1,938 yards and 21 touchdowns with just two interceptions. She has added 362 rushing yards and three more scores. On defense, her eye for the ball instincts have netted 15 interceptions this season, which is number 1 in the country, according to MaxPreps.com. (stats from MaxPreps.com).
With her arm, legs, and ball-hawk skills, Washington consistently sets the tone for Groves. As a result, opponents struggle to game-plan for her—and keeping her out of the end zone is even tougher.
