Holiday Hoops Are Back: Savannah Hosts SCCPSS and Savannah Christian Classics

The holiday season in Savannah means packed gyms and strong high school basketball matchups. Since the 1970s, tournaments like the Savannah Sugar City Tournament and two showcases this weekend have upheld this tradition.

Savannah will host two distinct holiday basketball showcases this Friday and Saturday — the 9th annual SCCPSS Holiday Classic and the 2nd annual Savannah Christian Preparatory School Classic. While both events bring together strong teams from Savannah, across Georgia, and from nearby states for two days of quality competition, each has unique features and hosting schools.

Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools hosts the SCCPSS Holiday Classic, returning this year with the showcase format introduced last year. Teams do not compete in brackets or championship games; instead, organizers match teams to create competitive games that help coaches evaluate their teams before the season intensifies. Beach High School, Gorves, Jenkins High School, Savannah High School, and Woodville-Tompkins will host the games.

Savannah Christian Preparatory School began its Classic on Wednesday, December 17, and the event continues to grow in its second year, now featuring more than 16 teams. The Savannah Christian Classic includes both girls’ and boys’ teams competing through today, using a showcase-style format with its own schedule and setup. See the full schedule below for today’s final action on the hardwood.
