How Effingham's Win Streak Continued Over South Effingham

Effingham County defeated rival South Effingham 47-0 in their 31st meeting since 1996. Effingham has won the last five games and leads the series 19-12. The the game was the WSAV Friday Night Blitz Game of the Week and it can be watched online by clicking this link.

 

The Rebels scored their first touchdown in the first quarter with a 31-yard pass from Tucker Perkins to Robert Wells at 7:20, with Michael Deien adding the Point After the Touchdown.

 

In the second quarter, Effingham extended their lead with an 11-yard pass from Perkins to Trayvis Hunter at 9:27, followed by Deien’s PAT. A two-yard run by Jr McKenzie with 2:10 left in the half made it 20-0, though the PAT kick was missed.

 

Effingham continued to roll in the third quarter. Perkins connected with Lamar Roberts for a 45-yard touchdown pass at 10:38 and then with Wells again for a 60-yard touchdown at 7:52. McKenzie added a three-yard touchdown run with 1:56 left in the third quarter, with Deien making all three PAT.

 

In the fourth quarter, McKenzie scored again on a two-yard run at 10:29, though the PAT kick was no good.

 

Perkins finished 13 of 17 passing for 233 yards and four touchdowns. Wells had three receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns. McKenzie carried six times for 26 yards and two touchdowns. Doe Davis led the rushing attack for the Rebels with 73 yards on five carries and a touchdown. Effingham totaled 334 yards, 233 passing, and 101 yards on the ground.

 

Effingham’s defense shut out South Effingham, holding the Mustangs to 86 total yards, including 54 rushing yards and 32 passing yards.

 

Effingham’s record improves to 2-1 in the region and 2-3 overall. South Effingham falls 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in region play. Next week, the Rebels will travel to Lakeside Evans High School (3-0/5-0), the GHSA Class 5A Region leader. They remain unbeaten with a 28-14 win over Glynn Academy last night.
